format using a Sony HDW-900 camera, shooting 24 fps progressive at
1920 x 1080 resolution for a cinematic, film look.
Director of Photography Ken Libby and aerial videographer Mark Girasemenko on location.
Video editorial and online post production was done with FinalCut
Pro HD.

Description: "First
Light" explores the highest peak in the Pacific, Mauna Kea, and
the controversies swirling around it. It is the most
sacred site in Polynesian culture, home to rare natural
resources, and the premiere location in the world for astronomy
- with controversial confrontations between competing groups.
This documentary shines a light on the efforts of all sides to
co-exist on this magnificent mountain.
The documentary was
featured at the prestigious Hawaii International Film Festival,
November 2004.
